Let me go play
Let me go out and play;
Don’t make me in this house stay.
I need to run and jump.
I even want to fall and take a bump.
I wish to claim a tree and fly into the sky.
I wish to tell this world goodby.
I want to count the butterflies and bees.
I wish to try into a small fence squeeze.
I need to make some mudpies.
I wish to smear it onto my face and you surprise.
Let me be a child while I can.
I want to do all these things before I become a man.
Is it too much to ask? Do I have to always do some task?
I have the rest of my life to struggle with strife.
Let me be free and live without a care.
Let me have some fun before I have gray hair.
Why struggle with school and end up as a fool?
Why, when I am just a toddler?
Please, just make me some cherry cobbler.
Then I will call you my Fairy Queen.
Everyone knows that queens are not mean.
You are the best Mother in the world.
You tease me, play with me and send me into a whirl.
You tell me great stories which feed my mind.
I will make you the strongest son you can find.
Only, now let me go out and play.
What more do I need to say?
I cannot stay indoors and live.
I have too many poems to yet give.
Love to all who read,
My poems.

My husband's birthday.
Happy birthday, Bucky Smith.
He wrote a poem about our first little son, who never got to run and play.
I am sure he is there now, playing forever…. Love you all until we meet again.
