I walk alone

By:  Jo Smith ~~~ May 15, 2021

Today I walked all alone

My memories are like a song

Being played over and over, both sad and joy.

The sadness that I can no longer see that little boy.

The joy of the fun we once shared in this place.

Nothing can ever from my mind erase

The bitter-sweet memories of you running and hiding.

And sometimes even sliding

Down into a little creek

As we played hide and seek.

We climbed hills and mountains

We jumped up into fountains.

We flew to the stars and then the moon.

You said we will do Mars soon.

You climbed trees and waved to me in the breeze.

We played in the snow when there was a freeze.

I taught you how to drive

And then you taught me how to dive.

We had little picnics out in the field.

We chased butterflies as you laughed and squealed.

But we always returned to the special place

Where we played hide and seek and ran a race.

You gave me more joy than tongue can tell.

As we walked together in woods and vale.

Now I am old and you are gone

But an everlasting love was sown.

You live in my heart like no other

You were given to me by your sweet Mother.

She laid you in my arms when you were born

And now life has from me torn

The joy that you brought to me.

But I know you must be free.

Free as a young deer to soar to your height.

And live your new life with all your might.

I wish for you great joy and peace as you now are a man

And I am left to walk alone and do the best that I can

To find new paths of treasure and cheer.

But I will never stop wishing that you were here.
